I believe I drank from Cup of Despair
hidden hung on Life’s abundant tree -
or it found me – hiding in low bough shadows
cringing – naked alone on the Human knee.
There’s a life out there in the mirey clay;
broken, left wandering listless long of late, riding
a big black storm on a cloudless day.
Universal music weaves in and out the air;
my instrument of Life pants breathless,
a struggling note blown out of tune.
My Sky Room is vast and mysterious;
on Celestial shelf near the stars and moon
float space junk: my unsung accomplishments.
I mourn the work left in Life undone;
my portion measures the least of them,
good intentions never count for much.
Now the tongue likes to claim my best – tho
my works – a life lived in superficiality and jest.
I’m told.
I’ve – colored my life Rusted Tin – in watery lies
little white sins some thoughtless whim – I’ve
smothered my candle from within.
God’s precious gift grows worn – O lowly worm
now – lost in lost loves lost dreams I squirm I scream;
nothing will cover my unworthy past or sins.
Some place away somewhere now at bay
lay lost souls like me alone afraid
fearful of base waste soiled Bed We Made.
Thinking, take this cup from me!
Born torn cloth never made whole;
Thy lowly limb severed from Life’s tree,
my impoverished love my mother sin,
my heart adrift unforgiven upon your sea.
Let this be what defines your hidden me;
a dam holding back a river tear
falling from an ocean eye.

another interesting read
Thank you, htmm! I have been negligent in acknowledging comments made for this poem and I’m sorry for that as I do appreciate feedback from my readers and cyberfriends. There’s no excuse for it other than to say I’ve been trying to spend my online time making comments and catching up with other of my readers! So I’ll be seeing you soon”

Hope things start to go better for you soon Janet. I miss you!!!
Hi, Anna! It’s lovely to see you here again.. Thank you so much for stopping in. I really appreciate your concern, and I’m sure things will get better soon. I’ve just had a lot of stuff dumped in my lap lately, and quite frankly, it’s difficult for me to get going, especially on this blog! And I need to be more active on BlogCatalog and find out how to do things on the site. I was glad to see you there, too! See you soon, and I hope all is going well for you, too! {{{hug}}}

I guess I would have to read your original poem more carefully, cuz the revised edition still hits me as hard as the former one. Still, as a poet, you have to be more hurt by life, more agitated, more wounded. I sometimes feel like we have some manic/depressive qualities. When we are blue, the universe is blue. When we are joyous, the ants do the river dance. I agree with Anna. Let’s all cut you a break, and let that old infectious smile of yours spread across your chops. Thanks for dropping by my site, and reading some George Bilgere.
Glenn
Hello, Glenn! Well, there were only a few minor changes to the poem, I replaced a word or two, is all..:) I totally agree with you about the poet’s personality and pre-disposition to manic/depressive qualities. I inherited endogenous depression from my father’s side of the family so I definitely can relate to people who are clinically depressed. Love this: /the ants do the river dance./ Thanks so much for all your support and encouragement, Glenn. Your kindness spills over me like a chocolate fountain and I’m splishing and splashing joyously unto the new day. {{{hug}}}

Thank you so much, David. I always feel honored when you find something I’ve written worthy of your first class blog.

wonderful! (unlurking after a year’s silence)
I’ve been thinking about this whole concept of “Bed We Made” lately . . . “You’ve made your bed . . .” and all that. It keeps coming up in odd places. Fascinating to see it here; I think there’s a poem brewing in those soiled sheets . . .
Be well
D
I’m so glad you’re back on the circuit, David. BTW, I love your new avatar photo. You piqued my interest in the use of the phrase, “you’ve made your bed, now lie in it,” David, and did a search on the term. There are 172,000 links to that specific phrase, it’s the title & subject of a song by You Me At Six, the title of a book by Joan Webb Basile – just to name a few. Maybe I connected with the collective universal mind while riding along on my wave length..?

Your mother’s love speaks volumes with your words. Only one person was perfect, without fault or sin, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Give it all to Him and be hopeful of brighter days ahead.
Love Ya…Trish
Awwww, shucks, Trish, I appreciate your encouragement and you are so right about “only one person was perfect” who is, indeed, our Savior. I know this is a little far from the subject at hand, but I know of a perfect duet of Barry Manilow’s Mandy sung by 2 young ladies years ago.
Please stop in again, dear Sis, whenever the spirit moves you to do so. BTW, how are things going down in Carolina?

The person who wrote this poem is not the person the poem describes. Its power and beauty belies all claims to powerlessness and insignificance.
Thank you so much for dropping in at Poetmeister and I hope you return here to read my response to your comment as I wasn’t able to leave it on your illuminating blog Out of Context: pieces of a life, Nothing Profound. I was compelled to seek out your blog after you left a profound comment here, and I’m really glad I did because your blog is one excellent mental aerobic workout..:) I love reading material such as yours; some of your simple-worded statements are the most profound; it has the pull of yin/yang complexity and wisdom; and the depth of a modern-day Confucius. I’m adding your blog to my blogroll so my dear readers can find inspiration from your writing, as well. To sum up my thoughts about your blog – BRAVO! Encore! Encore!
